Welcome

I have been gardening since 2007 and have expanded my variety of herbs and veg each year. This 2010 season will bring lots of new smells and taste into my garden, home, and hopefully bring lots of surprises for my friends and neighbors who appreciate fresh garden goodies!

Pre Planting Disappointment and Surprises

Welcome back to a new summer of sun and fun in the garden!

I have to say that the late start this year was looking a little disappointing until this Friday.

I will give you some background leading up to this weekend.

I did not have the chance to order the plants I wanted from the catalog that I received this winter...nor did I get to the garden stores early enough that the variety that was left when I got there was limited to say the least.

Last week I picked up some trays of Bush Basil, Cayenne Peppers, Cherry Bomb Peppers, and some Chili Peppers. I did not see the variety that I really enjoyed in the past years at the market.

I was really busy and kept delaying the trip to Pepinerie Jasmin, which in my opinion had quite a wide variety of Herbs in past years.

Last Sunday, I stopped by Pepinerie Pierrefonds on Gouin, the owners are super, and really helpful, I was quite late, but picked up 12 different herbs, including an herb pot that I will spotlight in a future blog post. I also usually pick up my variety of hot peppers here, but this year there was none left.

Finally Wednesday morning I got to Jasmin and got many herbs I was missing (list to come), and did not find any vegetable plants that caught my eye. I did grab the last trays of cucumber pickle plants so I should have 12 vines growing soon. I found a great parking spot at work in front of a picnic table under which I left the plants for the day!

Thursday I stopped at the market again ( March de L'Ouest ) and scrambled to find the last nice hot peppers, tomatoes, and herbs that I could. Again parked at the picnic table!

Friday! What a find....I took a chance to look at the I.G.A. plant market which they put up for the summer season! I found the Habanero plants which I had not found all week, I picked up 2 trays, so 24 plants! When I got to the cash, I saw a potted herb garden with a basil plant that I had wanted from my catalog. I say to the cashier, " That is Pesto Perpetuo. Where did you get it, do you have any individual plants?"

Pesto Perpetuo is a vertical basil plant that doesn't flower. I will also post on the basil garden and this variety in particular.

The cashier did not have any individual plants, but ....but...just then ....the supplier pulled up in his van and guess what...he told me he had a tray of it! I said, "SOLD" , I bought 6 plants, I think I will go back Monday morning to see if any are left...

This made my whole day, I was really excited! Once again got the picnic table spot where my plants were very happy. Sunday will be a super day of planting with a rush to get everything into the ground.

Next post will be about the Sunday 10 hour planting / gardening Blitz that left me sore and scratched up but happy and satisfied with the results.
